Thing 13

This isn’t what I expected at all. I’d never worked with blogs or online social media before this other than facebok. I learned a lot and a lot of what I learned transferred over to my internship where I actually created my own blog for the organization. I have used a lot of what I learned through this in that blog. I also didn’t have a Twitter account until this assignment. The only insight I really got from wordle is that I used the word delicious a lot in my reflection about it. My favorite post was bookmarking. I think that is the tool I’ll probably use the most now that I know about it. It will be a big part of my day-to-day activities and Twitter probably will also. I will probably use a lot of these tools in my life after Coe if I get a job in PR or anything using social media.

Thing 12

title="Wordle: 13 things AC">Wordle: 13 things ACWordle: Sweeney

This is the word cloud of my blog post of the show Sweeney Todd.

I do think it is a valuable thing to be able to see which words your mind has a tendency to write all the time. Sometimes you may need to change that, or maybe it’s just nice to know. Either way I think it’s a good thing to be able to see the words like that. I think it could be used in professional life if you’re a writer and you want to make sure to be strong on your points and repeat them a lot. It would be helpful for speeches or persuasive papers. It is a fun tool to use.

Thing 11

This is a pretty cool website.
I typed in “fight”-and I got combat, battle, conflict, engagement, to boxing and fisticuffs. It even expanded to where it said Armageddon.
I actually do use thesauruses a lot when I’m writing. I use the one on Microsoft Word mostly because it’s so convenient. I do like to mix up the word usage a little so you don’t get repetitive, using the same words over and over again.
I love how the simplest words can give you the most synonyms and related definitions. I chose “say” and it came up with about 50 other words. Same with “play.” Laugh didn’t have as many as I thought it would, but I got some good words.

Thing 10

I do think that CC is a good idea. Neat would probably have to be the word I use for CC. I use pictures and content from the internet all of the time. I use them in assignments, for slide shows, for almost anything. It seems to be an ok system. You just have to submit work and let other people use it and change it or whatever they want to do. I like the way they put it on the website, where they offer standardized alternatives to the “all rights reserved” rule. It’s a very clever concept. I would probably submit some of my creative writing pieces or a newsletter/brochure, mainly because I think they could have the most fun with it. I probably would not submit stuff like press releases.

Thing 9

I am definitely a fan of the Google reader. It is such a good idea and such an easy thing to use. Basically you can keep up on all of your favorite topics on one web page. You can catch up on the local news from KCRG and you can get the ESPN updates at the same place. This would also be very helpful when doing research or working with statistical changes. You can keep constant updates and know what is going on at all times. I think a lot of people would use this if they knew about it. It could be helpful to anyone who enjoys keeping up on many different websites.

Thing 8

I think the Delicious account is a great tool for anyone who does a lot of work on the web.  Every now and then you stumble across that article that you really like, but you know you’ll never see it again. Well now you can archive it so you can bring it up at any time. I love the way you can organize your tabs and bookmarks.  I would have liked to have known about Delicious a little sooner in my college career because it would have been very helpful. You can especially use Delicious after college in order to share ideas with people in your network. You can relay different sites and articles by bookmarking them. Then all people in your network will see them too.

My Delicious name is acdaniel67

Thing 7

So far I am following Drew Carey, Bill Gates, Dwyane Wade, CNMC, and Bloomberg News. So far I don’t really like twitter just because I’m learning how to use it. It is tough to learn mainly because of all the features it offers and all of the fun stuff you can do with twitter.  I can see people using twitter a lot in the professional world. It is very easy to keep up with and see what people are doing, thinking about, or involved with. It makes it very easy to stay up with a lot of different people and businesses. I will continue to use twitter because it seems like a valuable tool when it comes to social media.  It is a great way to get information to a lot of people in a very short amount of time.
